Looking for a great deal on a GPS?
« on: September 20, 2008, 05:26:19 PM »

I bought two C580s recently from Fry's Electronics for $180 each and thought I got a smokin' deal...

Then--I see Amazon currently has them for $149  monk

I'd invite anyone looking for a GPS to check these out. Here's a couple YouTube links which describe the C580 feature set:

Originally-- Garmin charged a LOT more for the C580 ($900)-- but with the newer generation (thinner and larger) displays hitting the market it appears they are looking to unload their "old" flagship for MUCH less than they currently charge for screens barely a half inch larger.

I bought the first one for a gift, but after loading it with the 2009 maps, using the bluetooth,SD card MP3 options and checking out the MSN -- current weather, gas prices and movie times-- I decided I needed one of my own.

So far, four of my friends bought C580s after checking mine out in person.

I installed it in the Caddy -- sticking the mount to the windshield right over the left side vent. And frankly,  larger screen wouldn't fit.

Like any electronics-- I'd expect somewhere down the road, this GPS will be as uncool as a shoe-sized cellphone-- but for NOW-- (and at the price) it definitely IS a great deal....

Works really well thumbsup

I forgot to mention-- running 215/50-13s on my Caddy-- I wasn't real confident the speedo was reading right, (Despite using the "white" gear on a 4k transaxle)--

With the GPS- I now have a VERY accurate speed readout (which never hurts if you have to go to court to contest a ticket)-- well worth the money, IMHO...
