I'm in the San Diego area between the 5 and 805 here in Clairemont. I have an empty garage right now and can call a few of the boys If we need to drop and place. All my cell phones are dead right now...I'm not trying to pay a 700.00 bill right now but you can send me a PM If you think it's an option.

Also I don't have much in the way of tools but I gots friends ;)

its a 2000 golf with an auto tranny. the tranny won't shift when its hot. i got stranded near barstow. it wouldn't shift at all. i got a tow to a budget and rented a truck to tow it to san diego. i was able to get it on and off the trailer, but i haven't tried driving any farther. i'm pretty sure that it will need a rebuild or replacement.

Glad you got it home....And I always hated my 2000 GLX tranny. I had it replaced 3 times and when I finally turned in that POS it only had 80K on it...

It looked good though  disappointed

I miss you dudes.  We are all about some fix-in-route shit.

Remember when I was stranded with a broken crack pipe at Jimmy's for Labor Day weekend?

Thad, you may be in a tight spot.  I know for a fact none of us have a mkiv auto tranny lying around let alone none of us are really familiar with the swap aside from James.  And from what he said it is not the driveway job.  He said feel free to call him at 760-703-1916 if you need any more info.

Just as I figured he would James says the auto trannys are pretty much bombs.  If it was slipping than it is probably dead.  He says that at work if they aren't shifting or slipping then they just usually put a new tranny in as it isn't worth re-building.

The worse part is that a new tranny is an arm and a leg.  James and I both have no real ideas of where you could get a reliable used tranny.

Tapatillo was a good junk yard in SD years ago.  They used to be real good but neither myself or James has been there for a long time.  They may have a tranny for you but since it's an auto who knows if it will work or how long it will last.

How long are you in town?  Since everything is already closed tonight and Friday is a holiday you've only got two days (weds & thurs) to lock something down before the 3 day weekend.

Sorry for the shitty news.  I wish I was able to say we could have you up and running by Friday but I don't think that is possible.

If you can figure a way to do it, you may be better off towing it back to CO and seeing if Joel can hook up a tranny.

At this point I am still down to help, but I don't know what else to do.

thanks andy for your help. you and james are saying the same things as joel. i went ahead and rented a car to drive home and then i'll get a truck to tow the golf home with. thanks for your help though.

we are planning on staying until friday night. my wife's relatives want to take us to see fireworks in LA, then we'll leave from there that night. we're going to just enjoy the week and worry about the car when we get home. maybe i can talk my wife into swapping in a manual tranny.....
