It truely is sad to see a car club that I knew in the PNW back in '98 /'99 go to shit with people like you and all your east coast cloanies. Now i see why some of the "original" crew have left the scene. Looks like a bunch of DEMONIC WHOREDs who run nothing but there fucking mouth in the DCI now........... - Euro2.0

CB Radio
« on: September 17, 2007, 11:15:58 AM »

I saw in Travis's thread there are a few guys into CB's and other radios.  I need one for my truck at work so here's the plan.  I'm pretty set on this type of unit as I'm space limited in the cab.

Cobra 75 WX
http://www.walcottcb.com/cobra-75wxst-remote-cb-weather-radio-p-520.html

Then thinking a 2' Firestik
http://www.walcottcb.com/firestik-ii-fs-hand-tune-antennas-foot-lengths-fs2-p-900.html

And a mount like this

or

I plan to have it close to the cab, in the driver side corner.  I know it's not the best placement for range, but I want it low profile and really only need to have one, but actually use it.

Then coax and misc shit I'll determine later.  But that's what I'm thinking.  Comments?  don't buy those....you suck?....marry me?  Anything?

C.W. McCall   -   Convoy.

Best CB song evar.

Cobra is the brand my grandpa had for all his CB's.  It held up to the saltwater and shit back in the day, so it cant be that terrible.

I'll definetly dl that song when I get home and put it on my Ipod.  I placed the order today with Walcott.  i think a 9' coax will reach from the back of my center console to the front lip of the bed, so I went that way.

Ed?  Did I see you bought a  meter?

Just remember that the longer your antenna, the better performance you'll get.

Even though the Firesticks have lots of wire wrapped around them, there's still no replacement for a bit of length (so all the girls keep telling me).

So if you can get away with anything longer, then you should.

I'm full aware of that.  But it's mainly going in cause I "have to have one".  And for slow/close trail use if I go out with some people.  I've thought of getting a quick disconnect and tune a 2' and a 4' antenna

Well, decided to change my order to add a quick disconnect.  The plan is to tune the 2', then eventually pickup a 4' or so on another disconnect.

Yes, I have a meter and you already know that now.  Did you ever check to see if you have a good ground from the aluminum bracket to the truck?  I'm thinking that's why you're not able to get below a 5 when tuning it in. I also have a 3' cable that I forgot about in the back of the truck, which in your mounting situation, it would have helped a lot. Let me know on the grounding situation and when you're ready for the meter.

Naw, haven't gotten around to the grounding yet.  Whenever I get into that I need to make sure my bed is grounded solid.  But I'm in no hurry, I get reception all around the plant here.
