New Cars vs Old Cars
« on: December 13, 2007, 12:45:41 PM »

Well, tonight it was freezing cold and I when I got to my car it was really badly steamed up inside...

I let the motor run for about 15 minutes, trying to get the fan to kick in and de-mist the windscreen, but no go...  The fucking thing wouldn't fire up.

So out came the cloth and I wiped the windows down and drove back home.

I was getting really pissed off that the fan wasn't working; bitching and moaning to myself about it most of the way back.

Then I stopped at a service station, got out and went round to the passenger side, opened the door, got on my knees and punched the underside of the dash in the footwell.  Blamo...  The fan started working!

I danced a fucking jig, got back in the car, smiling to myself and drove home.

I've had new cars for the past 9 years, getting rid of them after 3 years and 60000 miles...  So when stuff has gone wrong with them, it has REALLY fucked me off, as new cars shouldn't break down (and having do deal with "dealers" over here is an absolute nightmare).
I seem to have been thinking along the same lines with my current car, but on the way back, I decided that this was just part of this car's character, and that after 9 years and 163000 miles, I should cut it some slack (and I was pretty happy that I've got a car that I can punch to make stuff work again!!).

So, until this car starts costing me a lot of money, I'm going to keep it...  And I'll keep hitting the fan, if that's what it takes.

I like my Audi  starstruck!

As much as i like my Rabbits, driving a Toyota everyday was the best thing I could have done in my position.

ive always loved volkswagens but I have to agree with Timmeh in saying that driving a new car daily is so much easier and less stressful than driving a rabbit on a daily basis.

Not to mention on average, I drive roughly 10 times as much daily in Florida as I did in Oregon.

To me its always been some discomfort/ frustration and being liquid vs. having debt

debt hasn't won yet.

Well this Audi cost me £1000, plus £1250 for a FULL service/repair and £400 for tyres...  £2650... But it's all paid for.

This is better than the £250 a month I've been paying for the past 9 years in car payments on my previous 3 cars!

Shit...  £27000 down and nothing to show for it but some photos and memories!  Fuck car payments!

I wouldnt want a new car for the simple reason that nothing would go wrong to work on.

I actually like fixing old car issues rather than having to go to a dealer to for some simple shit

Actually new cars have more fucking glitches than you think.

And people also take old cars to the dealer for "simple shit"

You are a fucking mess.
