15" Spacers in front and 20" in back w/hardware so I can put my rims back on in spring..
whoa, you must be running some kind of crazy offset to need 15 and 20
inch
spacers.

as for the motor, in either going todo a simple rebuild with the stock 16v thats in there now or ill get a ABA from the junk yard and put a p/p 16v head on it, knife edge diesel crank, itb or maybe carbs, some other internals and get rid of anything that is not needed. i plan on doing some kind of engine management to it but not sure of what yet. i think my reason for wanting a painless harness is to get ride of the mess ive got under the dash and it seems pretty easy to install.
I didnt think you had a 16v in that.. did you do the swap or buy it that way?

nobody ever thinks that ive got a 16v in that car, the 8v body throws people off all the time. but yeah, i built/swapped everything i had from my 88 into the 82 after i had painted the floors/jambs and engine bay.
here is a pic of what my car looked liked when i got it (not my car but very close)
and after
heres the donor 88, the only pic i could find.. only had the car for two months before a drunk driver took it out

anybody that rebuilds a car should use a painless harness.
period.
i'd post a pic, but it's 4:42, i need to go to the store for contact solution, and i dont want to plug my portable hardrive in to upload the picture to my photobucket account.
but yeah, i'd have a painless kit in my 99 jetta if i didn't want to wire the power windows, locks, alarm, abs, and other luxurious bullshit. :)

the more I think about it, the more I think I should finish my car the quick and dirty way, and purchase another shell and do a proper chassis buildup.
as fun as my scirocco is, it still has a torn front beam and has been punched in the nose.

I had to have the red top replaced, but have that and the seat brackets now.. so other than the time constraint, I have no more excuses as to why I cant make the car run again.

pfft.. I never read that thing anyway.
there isnt a chapter on "noises that sound like motor mount movement that really aren't" so I doubt it'd save me any time.

Did those hicks at painless finally make a purpose-built harness for that application, or are you using one of the generic sports-application harnesses?

I have revised my winter list.
1. get car running again (got a new battery sitting on a battery tender at the garage)
2. make spark control work correctly so I can give shisler his distributor back
3. install 020 trans to re-tune the car and drive to mk1 madness
3. put in recaros with the brackets I have
4. reinstall the two wheels we took off the back
I had hoped to make more progress before this point, but I haven't had the time.

no problem.. the garage has heat, and you can sleep in a canoe.
