winter upgrade list..
« on: October 25, 2007, 08:13:09 PM »

if I can pull it off, this is what I'd like to have done on my scirocco by springtime.. especially since I have most of the shit installed or purchased already.. we'll see what I can get done (with sarah's help, since she has a better attention to detail than I have):

1. 2.0 ABA 16v with megasquirt n' spark, BBM screwcharger with air to air intercooler, exhaust header
2. 02A corrado transmission with peloquin diff installed, shifter mounted under car in stock location
3. replace front wheel bearings, repack rears and install new ferodo pads I've had since 2005
4. panasport wheels refinished, black spokes with polished lip, swap falkens from corrado sebrings
5. black recaro SRDs repaired and installed
6. EGT and boost gauges installed (vdo vision)
7. megaview display built and installed
8. relay headlights finally
9. clean up megasquirt and engine compartment wiring
10. find a tail light blend panel, relocate license plate below bumper
11. get rear arches from a european 16v/scala/gtx, find a front d/s arch from a US car
12. close and smooth drivers side front wiper hole
13. get a replacement single wiper arm from swg motorsport with paintable cover
14. install zender spoiler and rear wiperless glass I dont have yet
15. close up hole in hood for washer nozzle, install rabbit style squirters inside hood vents
16. reinforce hood to prevent cracking, install bonrath hood lifts
16. smooth, tint and install new tails that arent all cracked to bits
17. purchase and install roll cage
18. purchase and install new black or charcoal gray headliner
19. build floor carpeting panels for back seat area and trunk
20. respray entire car, probably audi dark gray of some sort (lava? nimbus?)

I've got a pair of seidl sideskirts I've been hoarding for like 4 years now.. I'm toying with the idea of installing them.

might make the car look a little lower since I refuse to drop it past "control arms parallel".. would need something for at least the front if I did that.

what plans do you have for the winter?

Decent size list...

I have some cams and lifters and all that in the mail for the vr, but I will get some of my winter projects up soon to read. I need to get a garage again, badly.

Let me know if you need a wrenching hand.

winter plans for my rado...

Currently the car is at the bodyshop.. has been since march. Been told that it will be done before christmas. It's having the front end repaired after crashing it, full respray with audi handles, aerial/rear wiper/bonnet jets removed, debadged grill/healight surrounds/wing mirrors/rear plate recess colour coded, and the number plate recesses on the front bumper and the bootlid are being shortened to the length of the plate.

Once painted the car is off to G-Werks where I'm going to refit the interior and put in a stereo install. I will be soundproofing the inside completely including the roof.I already have a Pioneer tv/dvd headunit, Audioscape door builds and Rainbow components. Just need an Amp, sub and Audioscape sub box. The front seats are going to have a bolster rebuilt and the leather re-connolising(sp?) and 6.5" monitors fitted in the headrests. I have a set of DDI gauges and rings to fit, and also red LED's to fit in all the switches, and will be getting a OE volt gauge for the centre consol with DDI backlit conversion.

The reason for me doing the inside at G-Werks is because they will be doing the brakes and engine. Up front, 320mm Porsche 4 pots, and the rear will be getting a 280mm conversion. As we speak a new engine is being sourced. Hopefully the deal happens on a mk4 Golf R32 complete engine from a rear damaged car! Should look pretty sick with a colour coded engine cover and Eibach strut brace! Should go alright too with the Peloquin LSD in my freshly rebuilt 5spd VR 'box.......

Should look like a brand new car with all the bits I've bought over the last year.. headlights, indicators, yellow french spec fogs, roof gutters, window seals, front windscreen. Oh, will also be getting new wheels. Gonna go for 18" one-peice porsche rims.

If all goes to plan it will be done for 9th March where it will make it's debut at Ultimate Dubs show. I'll stick some pics up soon when I next see the car as I haven't seen it for 4 months!

Here's to '08

Nice list.

I'm currently looking for money so I can get my 2.0 16v in the machine shop to get cleaned up and bored out a little and pick up pistons, cams, and some form of engine management, get the ITBs on, and get the motor in my Scirocco.  I also need suspension components that aren't made my neuspeed.  I hate the fucking trash heep company.

heres my little so called list

priority #1. find a garage/shop

1. smooth and paint the euro tail lights
2. get rid of rear seat and put in a false floor
3. find or have a roll cage built... possibly polish it as well
4. replace headliner with a black one with white stiching
5. purchase a set of nice seats
6. find manual window door cards that are in great shape
7. have dash and door cards covered
8. rewire the car with a painless harness
9. clean up, shave and rewire engine bay
10. rebuild the motor and build it up a bit

the list will probably expand over time... thats if money and time allows.

hey lemme know when you plan on relaying your headlights... something i'm very interested in doing to the golf.

no problem.. I'm going to overkill the shit out of it and use a splash proof relay box.

I have a place in PA (susquehanna motorsports) that sells all the components for a reasonable amount of money.. esher used my last kit, so I have to order from them again.

The reason for me doing the inside at G-Werks is because they will be doing the brakes and engine. Up front, 320mm Porsche 4 pots, and the rear will be getting a 280mm conversion. As we speak a new engine is being sourced. Hopefully the deal happens on a mk4 Golf R32 complete engine from a rear damaged car!

shit yes rob, that'll be fucking great.. and good move on bigger brakes, sounds like you'll need them. what porsche wheels?

I'm currently looking for money so I can get my 2.0 16v in the machine shop to get cleaned up and bored out a little and pick up pistons, cams, and some form of engine management, get the ITBs on, and get the motor in my Scirocco.  I also need suspension components that aren't made my neuspeed.

I run megasquirt, but have yet to tune it 100%.. there are a ton of people running that shit on 16v cars with motorcycle ITBs, so a bunch of people that could answer any question you might have.

julian (oldskool84) runs SDS on his 16v rabbit and also has good luck with it.. he's also an innovate dealer for when you need to get a wideband controller.

I started with neuspeed.. its amazing how much better a real suspension is than that stuff, but its still better than worn factory junk.

I'd recommend shine/bilstein (which I have) or  BSI/koni, as they use shortened A2 components for added durability (would buy this if I was buying new suspension)..

DOOBER: you're nuts to have two 16vs at the same time.. you'll be thieving parts back and forth.. ask me how I know

I'm sure it'll be okay though, if you build them right.

heres my little so called list

1. smooth and paint the euro tail lights
2. get rid of rear seat and put in a false floor
3. find or have a roll cage built... possibly polish it as well
4. replace headliner with a black one with white stiching
5. purchase a set of nice seats

well, it sounds like you and I are going to have a lot to talk about.. first, with the lights, I think I have an idea that will turn out better than spraying those bad boys.. it always ends up looking uneven after about a month on most cars parked outside, even if you clear them.. I'll talk to you about that later.

what are you planning on doing with the motor, and why a painless harness? if you're just looking for an engine bay solution, that might be more money than its worth.. especially if you go with megasquirt or something.. there's a pretty easy way to make an engine wiring harness any length you need if you're switching to that.. and if you're planning on leaving it 8v, it would be super cheap to convert with the multitude of 8v EFI parts.

this place makes rollcages for sciroccos starting at $170, up to $500 including "through dash" ones that go into the vents in your dash:

http://www.swracecars.com/

if you're going with new seats, or if you want to fix up a pair of aftermarket recaros, this place is your best bet:

http://www.on-trackperformance.com/recaro%20seats%20Index.htm

I've also got a pretty good idea when it comes to making false floors, and a couple places scoped out for edge binding..

jamie got a group buy together for foxes once.. I dunno if he can get any more cheap ones.

yeah.. I got my recaros used and am going to have to pay to have them fixed a little bit.. but its worth it.

You're probably right. I still have to shave the bay on the rabbit before the motor goes in, so the header and brand new motor mounts just sitting there are looking pretty tempting for the scirocco.

First I am pulling the motor and overhauling it, new rings n seals and all that good jazz.. unless I find signs of fatigue then its getting bored with forged pistons..

Then I am gutting the engine bay and painting it back..
Ceramic coating on downpipe, turbo, and turbo manifold.. then heatwraped.
Installing a metal valve cover and poweder coating it black with charge pipes and air intake..
Upgrading to a MSD ignition..
New Control arm bushings & sway bar end links.
Deleting Rear Seats, installing 3 gallon aluminum methanol tank, aluminum battery box and carputer in the hatch area.
Pulling the headliner and redoing it in black
ROLL BAR!! So the'll let me back on the track.. and Wiring up battery kill behind license plate
15" Spacers in front and 20" in back w/hardware so I can put my rims back on in spring..
oah yea and a set of RPI Big Brakes in front and some upgrades to the rears (havent decided, everything too fucking heavy!)

then it'll be ready for the very last phase of the project.. Skirts, Bumpers and a custom paint job.. Then its retied to live in garage under a car cover until I decide on whats next...

ive seen on votex a few people that have done this work on their tail lights and it turned out looking great. but im all ears for ideas.. as for the motor, in either going todo a simple rebuild with the stock 16v thats in there now or ill get a ABA from the junk yard and put a p/p 16v head on it, knife edge diesel crank, itb or maybe carbs, some other internals and get rid of anything that is not needed. i plan on doing some kind of engine management to it but not sure of what yet.  i think my reason for wanting a painless harness is to get ride of the mess ive got under the dash and it seems pretty easy to install.
