that's a statement of opinion... i'm not doubting that the man has talent, but i dont like everything he's written. i'll jam out to some little red corvette or some 1999. other than that i dont want to listen. i also like to thank him for discovering Carmen Elektra and introducing her to all of us.
i personally use music to help influence my mood in a way. if i'm pissed, i'll listen to hardcore and help calm me down. if i'm bummed out i'll listen to some slower shit (maybe prince), if i need to get shit done (which is the usual) i listen to alot of punk. so for me to say that prince would be one of the best it would depend on my mood.

Well yeah, it is, though it's founded. There's no way you can deny that Prince is easily one of the most gifted musicians of the past 30-40 years. The man simply tears every instrument apart. His equals are few and far between.
As for the guitar...
2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, George Harrison and Prince
tons of guitar heavyweights and Prince gets the solo, at about 4:00 minutes in, he destroys it.
Youtube comments are usually worthless, but this seemed relevant (it's from the video of just the solo)

I remember seeing a VH1 thing or something like 10 years ago where Eric Clapton says that he thinks Prince is the greatest guitarist hands down. Struck me as a pretty bold thing to say, even for Eric Clapton. Ever since that day I actually listened to him play the guitar as opposed to listening to the song...he was right!

eric clapton was also quoted as saying eddie van halen is no good. he said that all that stuff he does is just smoke and mirrors.
im not saying that eddie is the god of all guitarists, infact he isnt even one of my favorites, but he can play a guitar.
and i was saying i used music to control mood as a reason that i dont listen. i've never doubted the man being a bad ass.
