Hitch rack on the GTI
« on: August 03, 2007, 09:55:22 AM »

Got the goods from etrailer dot com, decent price and free shipping so ... meh.  I just didn't want a roof rack, having a hitch allows for other cool stuff like trailers and shit.

FYI hidden hitch setup isn't as "bolt on in 30 minutes with hand tools" as they claim, I don't have pics but there is a cutout on the hitch to allow the exhaust hanger brackets to "poke through" - well the hitch wouldn't bolt up as shipped so took some help from Mistah Plasma and Missus Grinder to clearance it.  Still creaks sometimes on bumps especially with bikes on ... oh well.

Anyway - 1 1/4" class 2 setup with Thule T2 rack - enjoy!

Oh ... also had to take Hacksaw Baby Jr to the driver's side wheel cup to keep it off the bumper :D

Pretty much - Thule bought the rights to the sportsrack "non commercial" setup years ago - a scaled down version of those racks seen on transit busses.

perfect for heavy steel with no quick releases :D
