Cheap flat or satin black paint?
« on: June 04, 2007, 01:16:37 PM »

I'm thinking someone here used some industrial or farm implement paint with much success.  I need details dammit!  I need to paint a car flat or satin black and it needs to be super cheap, but still look good.  Any ideas?

John Deere Blitz Black?

Red Baron (Mike) seems to be pretty damn seasoned on the subject.  Dude found satin paint with metal flake.
He was telling me about some hot-rod paint shop that has a ton of colors for cheap.

John Deere Blitz Black.  I'm telling you.  It is a really durable enamel and is cheap.  Last time I checked it was around  $29 for a gallon.  Can't beat it and it looks awesome.  End of topic.  Get it at John Deere tractor dealors/service centers.

Blitz Black, I use it a lot on non cars at work. If you use clear it gets satin.

Do you have to use a different kind of clear?  I've never put clear over enamel.

Found this:

If using blitz black or any acrylic enamal be sure to use a acrylic enamel hardener. Some folks may say it optional but IMO its not and needs to be used. One other benefit to consider is if you use hardener and decide the flat black is not really what you wanted in 30 days and only if hardener was used you can actually shoot a clear coat over blitz.

Found that on a hot-rod forum.  Sounds like as long as you use a hardener (and wait 30 days) you can use any clear coat, but they didn't specify.  I also hear if you clear it, you need to add a flattening agent to the clear to make it turn out satin.
I bet any reputable paint shop knows what's up with blitz black.  I sure don't.

Thanks fellas.  My girlfriend hates her neon green Escort.  Sure it will still be an Escort, but at least it won't be neon green/teal any more.

the stuff i found is a little bit more expensive than blitz black but is supposedly easier to use...... already has the flattener with it and everything. the one gallon kit actually makes a gallon and a half of sprayable material, and would be more than enough to spray a neon.

http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/ksflatz.aspx

all the colors are there so there is a choice, if you click around on that siter they have lots of other stuff as well.

You typed one more sentence after you called "end of topic".  That may be in violation.
