Remember when we were talking last summer about paint and what not...? Well, I'd like to get some paint on my mk1. I'm moving somewhere (not sure where yet, wherever the military sends me, prolly Georgia again) in July-September time frame.
I was thinking that when I leave here, I may tow the Derby behind the mk3 Golf and have Mary drive the Rabbit to Colorado. I'll put the Derby in storage there, and hoping to work something out with you about having you paint the Rabbit while its there.
The nice thing is, I can take like a month of vacation in Colorado before continuing on to Georgia. AND, I don't necessarily have to have the Rabbit done when I leave, cause I can just drive the Golf to Georgia, and come back whenever the Rabbit is done.
I'm not looking for show quality, far from actually. I'd be happy with something that looks like factory paint after 20 years of care. I just want to be able to wax it. Obviously I'm talking to you because there are other special needs. It needs a new core support, and I want the engine bay painted as well.
I'm hoping that between you and Joel, maybe we can source up a turbo diesel or TDI to swap in. I'll have about $4000 I can use to freshen the paint and do the motor swap, so it'll be a little tight, but doable I think.
And, during my month long vacation, I can do as much of the work as I am able. Pull the motor, strip the rattle can job, pull glass, that sort of thing.
