Tell me about fuel injection + megasquirt.
« on: April 25, 2007, 08:27:33 AM »

I know nothing.  I can tune carbs so - all of my vehicles have carbs - except for the Jetta that I don't really do much with.

I'm squirting the Rabbit...  Am I going to want insane injectors?  What mods should I consider?

The motor that's going in that I'm squirting is a 2L ABA with a crossflow head, megasquirt running distributorful config.

im squirting the aba in my caddy w/ itb's. id sugest doing the same so u can make some extra HP, get way better throtel resoonce, and maximize your mod's aka cam, head work!  that or get a short runner log manifold. the stock manifolds are nice and all but dont flow so well. godo hp gains from non oem manifold setups.!..... im sur eu have a lap top. u jsut need a good wide band set up to help u tune it!. its kind of like configureing a net wrok. jsut math. and im sure u can do math better than mos!..... wink wink.....

big cam
big porting pollishing
built head, HD springs, TI retainers, light weight updated lifters, narrow stem valves, multi angle valve job
itb's or short runner big plenum manifold
mega squirt w/ built in wide band and spark control
mk3 down pipe
TT shifter linkage kit to work w/ mk3 dwon pipe or convert to cable shifter tranny (im doing the cable shifter swap in my truck)
also, id use a early ABA motor w/ the forged internals so u can reve the shit out of it.
fuel cell w/ surge tank to prevent starvaton of EFI in hard corners!

shit will be bullet proof, cheap on parts, easy to work on. thats at least how i see it. im doing all this to my caddy. only it will have 1/2" ground clearance and have street tires.

I'd stay away from ITB's for your application, unless you want to spend the money for TWM's or something SOLID.  RC Engineering (injector shop) has a good injector sizer.  I'm guessing something around 25 lb/hr will be fine.  I'm using 30's/310cc and they're plenty big for NA.

Wideband would be a nice addition tho.  Wanna check into going in on one?

Yea, not red hot on ITBs for Rally.  Though, it'd be rad, I'd like to keep tuning down to a min in service.

It's obvious that the measurements you are throwing up there to identify injectors are flow/volume.  Yours are 30lbs per hour at 310cc?  Do you notice unburned fuel/detonation with larger injectors etc?

Pardon my ignorance, I assume wideband is a measurement device for assistance in tuning?  What do they go for?

The injector measurements are 30 lbs/hour.  Or 310 CC/min IIRC  You can run larger injectors, I had some ~36's you just have to trim the fuel down a bit more.  Oversize too large and the duty cycle they're can cause a rough idle.

I think Innovative LM1? is teh wideband to have.  Wasn't Julian getting deals on these a while back?
