front clip question...
« on: March 05, 2007, 08:24:26 PM »

Ok so.. i think that I am going to do this either way but would like to be sure there is no taboo I am stepping on...
My caddy was hit in the front passenger corner god knows how long ago... long before I owned it the first time for sure... It was pulled out and now is just rusting away in that corner.

it's worse that it looks when the grill is off but this is what I have at the moment:

look very closely at the side panel that the fender is mounted too near the crumpler.. you can see it was pulled out:

I scored a swallowtail nose that is cut off the front of the car about eight - ten inches back, basically to the beginning of the strut tower.

So, is there any reason I cannot just use the plasma on the panels that the fenders mount to, removing said crushed section, and just weld up the new nose bout 8 inches into the body?????

got pic's of the new parts? ..... personly beign that is a lot of work id do to that truck what im doing to mine. only........ yeah.... lets say im doing something 100% difrent w/ my rabit...... kidn of like a tube front end only...... hum.... diffrent. its kidn fo a lot of work to get a front clip swaped on a mk1 and to make it as safe as it was befor. not impossble but its a matter of cutting/welding in teh righ tspots os u keep the curmple zone and shit working properly ontop of geting it on and beign strong. ......

get yoru parts photo graphed and lets go from there.  my pickup wont have fraim rials, or even "horns" for the a-amrs soon........ its geing something else.....

i don't think I explained enough.. I will be using the existing crumple zones and using the grill/side sections about 8" back from the other.., I will post a pic later.

soooo there is totally enough meat on the sides to trim it straight and attach there.. the old crumples etc would obviously be removed prior to install and the ones that are already on the truck used...

basically I have planned out the easiest route for it so it seems all good.. Basically just seeing if there are any pitfalls anyone has hit in the same scene

i think your best route is to prolly eat your pee head and then forcefully vomit it out your butt.  while still attached.  that would be ace and make your caddy pretty cool.  i think.
