Went for a long ride on the IRO last weekend...
« on: February 20, 2007, 05:25:58 PM »

Took my first long ride through SF, on a single-speed, this past weekend. Finished putting together the IRO Mark V I ordered recently and got a wild hair to go for a long ride. I estimate that I covered 7-8 miles before the day was over.

Unfortunately, I loaned my camera out so I snapped few phone cam pics...

It begins

First stop: Ocean Beach

Embarcadero

Hanging on the Golden Gate

Back at homebase

I know, I know. I got the same reaction from my boss, who rode a 100 mile stretch last weekend.
This bike was picked up as my motivation to get back into shape so, at my current stage - this was a very long ride. Not to mention, a good 60% of my route was UP SF hills, whilst passing helmet wearing/spandex-clad yuppies on X-speeds. :D

Is EMB still what it was when i was there in 1995?  or did they tear it appart?  i.e: ledges, brick..ect ect?

It's still there, intact. There are still a number of kids out there daily but, most of them seem to now flock to a newer center divider island across the street.

No worries man. I think the key to getting back into it initially is taking long but mellow kinda strolling rides with a buddy...you would be suprised how many miles you can clear in an afternoon that way.
