Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: etomorrow on November 03, 2006, 12:31:02 PM just a fat out of shape one here.
and i was never any good anyway. hey did you say you are coming east soon? Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on November 03, 2006, 01:15:15 PM Yeah, I'm coming out to TN in the next couple weeks. There seems to be a good scene there.
I was waiting for you to chime in too :joel: I haven't been back east with my bike in YEARS. I can't wait to ride some real trails. I may be up for a little northbound roadtrip when I get out there too. You gonna be around? And I know more of you guys ride.. Mike, you know you can have me whenever you want me... Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on November 03, 2006, 01:29:47 PM ive been known to hop on a bike from time to time.... havent really been riding much lately, but here are some pics from when i was thin and like 22....

Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on November 03, 2006, 07:52:13 PM Fuck yeah, looks like I need to pull down the Resist video.
What's up with Mediocre? Are the gears still turning? Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on November 03, 2006, 10:17:39 PM yeah, i was selling shit down in maryland and kinda had a day job. the company kept bouncing paychecks, so i kinda took a loan from mediocre that i just paid back literally 5 minutes ago. so yeah, eric has some good ideas, i got a few that he will probably go for... you never know.
here's an old one on my friends driveway spine... choppy but 360 tailtap to icepick. (http://www.geocities.com/lostelmnt/Animation/360tailice.gif) Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: etomorrow on November 03, 2006, 11:56:12 PM Fuck yeah, looks like I need to pull down the Resist video. What's up with Mediocre? Are the gears still turning? i am gonna place an order with the printer this week. more t's or hoodies? probably baseball hats too Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on November 04, 2006, 01:49:30 AM We need to get together and kill it sometime.
I had an ACL replacement and meniscus repair earlier this year (the knee brace shot) so I am trying to get back on top of things. That first pic was the second time on a bike since Feb. I'm so glad to be back on a bike again. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on November 04, 2006, 01:50:45 AM i am gonna place an order with the printer this week. more t's or hoodies? probably baseball hats too Keep me updated for sure... I have always been a weekend warrior. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: MrJoshua on November 04, 2006, 10:26:55 AM I've got a Free Agent "Flying Fortress" BMX that I use to ride to the shops on, sometimes.
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on November 04, 2006, 01:06:03 PM thats not something a person would usually want to admit... kinda like rocking a huffy. im still rocking a t1, but i really want to make a mediocre prototype frame.
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on November 04, 2006, 01:23:32 PM i really want to make a mediocre prototype frame. A WHAT? Info please. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: etomorrow on November 04, 2006, 02:25:47 PM A WHAT? Info please. listen negro, mediocre frames. nick will make them by hand. we will ride them. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on November 04, 2006, 02:35:04 PM yeah, it's been a dream of mine since i started riding. make a frame. over the last 12 years ive ridden alot of frames, as have alot of people. i looked at all the geometry as time went on and kinda have a pretty good idea on how angles coralate to how the frame would feel.
figure since i pretty much made myself eric's silent partner i would put my own money into this side of the venture and try to make a few frames.... i tried about a year ago but didnt know how to tig weld and the person i new that did, didnt want part in it. now, i know how to tig weld and work for a machine shop giving me access to cnc mills, lathes, welders and metal suppliers. so first im going to make a roughly adjustable jig... and make a frame from PVC piping. then maybe order some chromoly. its going to take some time, cause i have alot of shit going on... but it would be fucking awesome. mediocre psycles. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on November 04, 2006, 02:56:52 PM Killer.
What kind of things you have in mind? Internal headset? What type of BB? Seamless double and triple butted tubing? You work at a machine shop? Are you thinking of doing any small parts? Sprockets? Stems? For the time being I want to get rid of this T-nez and pick up a new Pantera. The Federal is too damn short. I had the old Pantera and loved it. Only thing was it didn't have an internal headset and it got ovalized. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on November 04, 2006, 03:15:03 PM first few are probably going to be 1 1/8" external headset, and either american or mid bb... just to make shit easier. if i did internal headset i would have to find a company to make them for us, im not that well versed yet to make one. and for prototypes i dont want to sink a shit load of money into bb and headtubes. like the first few probably wont have 990 mounts built in, ill probably just use the old plates for putting them on the forks just for prototype sake.
headtube: 75* seattube: 71* tt length: 20.5" and 21.25" chainstay length: 14" short rear end will make manuals, as well as spin tricks easier. steeper then normal headtube makes for quicker steering as well as barspin and tailwhips faster. the seattube is pretty normal.... and im 6'3'' so i want a frame 21 1/4. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: MrJoshua on November 04, 2006, 05:08:51 PM thats not something a person would usually want to admit... kinda like rocking a huffy. im still rocking a t1, but i really want to make a mediocre prototype frame. I don't know shit about bmx, but I was lead to believe Free Agent frames were well made? Was I sold a shitter? Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on November 06, 2006, 08:32:23 AM not a total shitter... when they came out they were good, then the quality dropped when the company was bought out by a bigger conglomerate that had nothing to do with bikes at all. like brunswick bought mongoose... brunswick made bowling equipment... shit on the mongoose name and put them in walmarts. i was just busting your balls a bit.
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: MrJoshua on November 06, 2006, 02:33:59 PM Ahh, ok cool... I bought it prolly 3-4 years ago. It retailed at £500 ($1000 US) but I got it for £250 ($500 US) at an aircooled show.
The frame has some killer welds on it and it looks like it'd take being dropped off a house, but then, like I said I know shit :) It is fucking heavy though. Alex rims on it (which I have on my KHS mountain bike and seem pretty good), but apart from that, it had no-name everything else. I took the shitty front brake off, took the gyro off too cos that was shit and replaced it with some super slick cable and a Dirty Harry lever and a fucking great rear brake that I can't remember the name of right now.... Stops properly now and can take my fat ass down to the shops without bending. Basically, I bought it at the show because I couldn't be arsed walking round the place for 3 days while my mates all had bikes. Bit stupid really, but at least it looks good on my roof-rack: (http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/photos/free-agent.jpg) Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: GtiVwagen on November 11, 2006, 11:40:55 PM yep that is parkville. i went there like 3 or 4 times. i had to pay tolls to get there.

Post by: Duffman on November 17, 2006, 01:26:03 AM fuck...i used to ride. any pics i have of me are actual photos, and i dont have any of them, they'd be with the people i used to ride with, who i dont see anymore. all of which are really good now.
coolest thing i think i could ever pull was a kickflip to tailtap on a quarter...i was such a pussy when it came to riding. could never air out of a quarter, boost big jumps or the spine (i could make it over a spine, but not very high)....coolest box jump trick i ever pulled was a barspin, i landed 5 of those. haha last bike was a WTP thrillseeker...i loved it. sold it all for $500 so i could finish my MK2 jetta. dumbest mistake i ever made. now all i have is a busted S&M Holmes NG and an Odyssey freecoast hub laced to a primo rim w/ some burley spokes...and a tire. that's it. i'd love to have one of the proto frames if yer gonna make 'em, nick. 21.25 please. :) give me an excuse to get back into shape, even if i have nobody to ride with. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: jewish on November 17, 2006, 08:01:51 PM Duff, you could always come with me when i go skate or me you and chris could make a day to just go to some parks
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Duffman on November 18, 2006, 02:21:24 AM gotta get a bike first
maybe i'll get in touch with the cats i used to ride with and see what they got layin around...knowing them, there's a frame laying around...and probably everything else to put something together. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Duffman on November 19, 2006, 12:58:12 AM hahahaha, i fucking knew it.
one myspace message, and one phone call.... i have in the works a frame w/ a dent in the downtube (free), bars, cranks, forks, front wheel, stem, chain setup, whatever other misc parts will be needed to go with what i have already. fucking sweet. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on November 19, 2006, 12:59:11 PM Let me know if you need anything else. I'll go through what i have and see what I got.
I just moved to Knoxville, TN a few days ago and I'm trying to figure out where to ride. I'll be picking up my car tomorrow then start searching. The street downtown looks pretty damn good though.. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: jewish on November 19, 2006, 09:01:05 PM sweet duff. youll be riding in no time
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Duffman on November 19, 2006, 09:02:17 PM what'd you move to TN for? the hell of it?

I just moved to Knoxville, TN a few days ago and I'm trying to figure out where to ride. I'll be picking up my car tomorrow then start searching. The street downtown looks pretty damn good though.. UT campus has some pretty dope spots. i know there were some trails down there too somewhere, i can see if i can find out exactly where. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: red baron on November 20, 2006, 08:15:10 AM what'd you move to TN for? the hell of it? hahahhahaha pretty much! Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Fallen on January 06, 2007, 12:10:30 PM I have been slowly getting a project bike together that has actually gotten somewhat respectable... dunno.. Metal Burma frame (old but dope), S&M slam bars / Redneck stem, FSA headset, Man O War hub & Hula Hoop rim for the front and just scored a Odyssey Hazard light rear... etc. I have been riding fixed and brakeless for about two years so it's a really different vibe to get back into for sure.
I end up leaving my track bikes home and riding the BMX everywhere... Rode it for critical mass last week. It's WAYYYY more fun to be able to jump off and over shit. Moving to PDX over the next couple weeks, if anyone knows where the good shit is around downtown let me know. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Duffman on February 03, 2007, 01:22:11 AM nice man...
fuck. maybe i'll throw the S&M Holmes NG i have together this weekend w/ some of the crap i've got, figure out what i need and go to town with the tax return. if i didn't have such a hell of a hill to ride up on the way home, i'd ride to work....but walking through the part of tacoma the hill is located at midnight every night is kinda sketchy.... Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Fallen on February 03, 2007, 06:52:48 PM I have a hammered but usable rear wheel you can have...hula hoop rim w/ man o war hub... uhhh... other stuff as it gets replaced.
I added a odyssey hazard rear w/ 12 tooth and a metal chainring, odyssey 41 thermal cranks and bb, S&M 101 pedals... etc... Fixing a pinch flat while making dinner = (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v151/Fallen187/IMG_8402.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v151/Fallen187/IMG_8403.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v151/Fallen187/IMG_8404.jpg) Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: huskyscott on April 15, 2007, 10:58:50 PM i started pedaling around again picked up an fbm pw moto. the new style headsets rule no more beating the in and euro bottom bracket rules too
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on April 16, 2007, 01:50:40 AM I just switched from internal headset to the old style cause I hated the frame I had.
Now my bars don't even spin all the way around. Fuck it. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on April 18, 2007, 05:29:42 AM im rocking a kink headset that i bought in probably 1998. best headset in the world, it's been on 4 frames.... and my bars spin... alot. eric can vouch.
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on April 18, 2007, 01:02:24 PM Probably doesn't help the headset I have has an aluminum upper cup...
I knew a dude that didn't run bearings. He stuffed his headset with fresh babywipes. No fucking joke. And he was a shredder. (http://morejpegs1.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/Shredder2.jpg) Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Marcski on April 25, 2007, 02:34:25 PM my bike:
(http://www.volksforum.com/albums/files/4/DSCN0523.jpg) i only flatland after i had 6 fractures in my left arm Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on April 25, 2007, 03:23:45 PM ever think of using a primo pervert upside down so you can run a lever on each side for the front brake? i had that set up on my old flat bike, it was pretty bitchin..
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Marcski on April 25, 2007, 10:54:33 PM yeah, i had that some time ago, but i kept grabbing only the left handle, so i ditched it
the pic is old, when i resprayed it.. i run brakeless now, but thinking of putting the front brake back on for some more control Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Duffman on May 19, 2007, 07:20:59 PM man....i first learned to ride doing flatland, and got absolutely nowhere...that shit is so fucking hard. good lord. as much hell as flatlanders catch, i think they are way more technical of a rider than most street and ramp riders....
i remember watching Dave Osato (the canadian) ride back in the day, throwin flatland into his ramp riding....that was the shit... Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on May 20, 2007, 07:10:24 AM I agree. My little brother is riding flat at a pro level now. I still give him shit. When we both started riding we rode flat. But I didn't have the patience, so I ended up riding trails. Small fish big pond. My brother won't even attempt to jump a box. He briefly got into riding mini but that didn't last long. If I can find any videos of him online I'll put them up.
I'm all about the tech side of riding. I used to slow-mo through all of Krt Schmidt's sections in the old Baco videos. But now I think I may take off the front binders again cause eastern TN has the perfect land to build some serious trails. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on May 21, 2007, 09:20:58 AM best mini ramp riders ever all ride flat, except dave friemuth... he's just insane on a ramp flat out. i never really got good at flat, maybe a pinky squeak or a funky chicken and some whiplashes is about me trick list. i mostly started riding trails, that got old and started riding miniramps and skateparks more... i think my favorite thing in the world to ride is a good spine.
its a quarter pipe, its a box jump, its a quarter pipe with another quarter pipe up against it.... fucking awesome. the other day i got on my 20" for the first time since my friend broke his femur in august. rode for an hour just on a bank near my house and had my little kicker ramp. the first 20 minutes were rough... shit started coming back fast. 3'd the little kicker and packed it up. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on May 21, 2007, 05:19:41 PM I want a street spine. Now.
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on May 21, 2007, 06:43:59 PM yeah im building one... totally
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on May 21, 2007, 08:20:54 PM Maybe I should get my ass up there for a visit then..
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Duffman on May 22, 2007, 12:19:36 AM if i had the money and space, i'd build a full 6' mini w/ street spine in it.
i seek out spine ramps to ride, by far my favorite thing to ride. and i'm not even good, i just feel cool every time i go over it. almost like having style is required to flow over the thing. :) Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on May 22, 2007, 06:07:21 PM i had trouble with spines for a bit, going high was hard until someone told me to actually pull backwards, from there it was over. favorite trick that i used to be able to do was 360 tailtap to icepick backover, not the coolest trick at all, but i felt like a badass everytime i did it... i dont even know why.
rode again today, rode the bank near my house hurricaned the curb at the top (sub box style)... didnt think i would stick it... i'm still kind of shocked. i guess it's like riding a bike... Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Duffman on June 01, 2007, 04:35:55 PM hurricaned?
essplain please. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on June 01, 2007, 08:29:19 PM you know.. hurricaned.
past tense of a hurricane. he spun fast. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Duffman on June 02, 2007, 08:13:07 AM gotcha. i've never heard of that term...but i've been out of the loop for a few years now.
4 1/2 to 5 to be exact. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on June 02, 2007, 09:15:04 AM It's OK, you ain't missing much.
I haven't picked up a BMX mag in about a year... Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on June 10, 2007, 07:20:54 PM hurricane is a trick brian castillo always did... mini ramp/ curb/ wedge/ bank trick. basically you do a 180 stalling the back wheel on the coping/ curb/ top of wedge/ top of bank and then immediatly 360 out. all in all doing a 540 with a quick stall at 180.
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Duffman on June 10, 2007, 10:42:40 PM damn....brian castillo...haven't heard that name in a while...
same with "rooftop"...wtf happened to that guy? the foster brothers? what about that garcia guy that rode for schwinn back in the day...had a signature frame, stainless one w/ a clearcoat over it for "paint"... Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on June 11, 2007, 12:59:41 AM Rooftop is still in it. Used to see him at the Etnies park in Lake Forest.
Foster's are still doing it, esp. Brian. Blue Falcon will always soar. Joey Garcia has been spotted from time to time, but I think he's thrown in the towel from knee injuries. "El Heffe" was that bike you speak of. But I could be completely wrong though, my sources are stale. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on June 11, 2007, 12:53:23 PM i think alan foster still races. brian lives in jersey and pretty much kills it still, mostly riding street and skateparks.
rooftop is still a "circus trick" rider... he does some rediculous shit. castillo owns volume bikes, and demolition parts and still rips. joey gar"SEEEEYYYYAAAAA" blew his knee out every other day. i would agree he threw in the towel for it. new riders if you dont know you should try to find... Corey Martinez Morgan Wade Brian "the wiz" Wizmerski Gary Young find videos of them on youtube or somewhere. martinez will blow your fucking mind. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on June 11, 2007, 01:40:30 PM Took this last New Years in Austin:
(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a332/bmx_v_dubdub/new%20years%202006/DSC04287.jpg) Gary and I used to go jump the fences at all the socal parks that didn't allow bikes and ride till 2am. We'd do that 3 or 4 times a week. I need to get back on my bike and quit making knee excuses. Corey is nuts. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on June 27, 2007, 06:41:47 PM I just rode trails a few hours ago for the first time since I tore my knee last February. There's been these trails out here and it's the first time I went to them since I moved here in November. I don't know why the fuck I hadn't went sooner. I had a fucking blast. They weren't that big, pretty dry. biggest set was probably 5ft tall and 9ft long, that's giving it credit. But it's a decent location with lots of *potential* There's a curved wall ride too.
I found out I can still do turndowns with a knee brace, and I haven't lost inverts. last sunday I rode street all fucking day. I hadn't rode in 2 months before that. I'm sore as fuck and my hands are mangled and I'm happy. Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: marylandNick on June 28, 2007, 02:45:03 PM yeah... i took my bike to maine, mailed it home and still havent put it back together. what a fucking slacker i am
Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Fallen on August 20, 2007, 08:45:18 PM Lincoln HS which is in almost every recent bmx video I have seen is right up the street from where I am staying so I have just been riding there...
only notable thing that happened last week was that my front peg/axle had come loose while practicing and went up for a 50/50 only to get my ass handed to me by the peg shearing off the front axle threads.... :banghead: The next day caught a half inch staple on the way there..... :banghead: Title: Re: Where's the BMXer's?? Post by: Balloon Knot Goggles on September 22, 2007, 03:44:38 PM Is the only reason I still "ride" is because I haven't popped a tire lately?

Already having a sneak preview of riding it's majestic transitions I'm going to say it's in the top 5 best cement parks I've ridden. Or I'm just saying that cause I don't have any other local choice of park to ride. Good enough reason for you fucks to turn southbound. That reason having nothing to do wif dat seamint park down the road. MDNK, I have contacted C-fish and he is anticipating moonshine and seamints. See you in a couple weeks.
