Title: Resealing an injection pump myself for a diesel worth it? Or...
Post by: attackrabbit on November 25, 2008, 10:09:56 PM
So my injection pump is dumping fuel it seems...  Is it worth it to just get the seal kit and try to put it all together myself:

Or...  Should I remove the pump and have it rebuilt for $200...

im cheap but, iv heard thoughs things are like a rubix cube to mess with.  if u get a rebuilt one do they inspect, pollish and such all teh internal parts? i have a dire need to rebuild the power steering/vaccume pump on my diesle truck. kits is 35buks, factory rebuildt pump is about 180. from what i have read the place doing teh rebuidls realy do a good job refurbishing all the moving parts and such making it well worth the cost. ill prob go this way just for peace of mind when ever im motovated enough to actuly dig that bastard out of the truck.

thats all id think about, a fuel injector pump probably wouldnt hurt to have a simmilar process doen if they do that inaddition to installing the new seals.

I concur with TT. The only thing I've had more trouble putting together was an electronic carburetor from Mikuni, and those take a factory-trained mechanic twelve hours.

You'll also have the peace of mind in knowing that all the springs and washers, etc. that aren't included in the kit have been replaced if broken, instead of robbing a ball-point pen and shit. Not that I'd assume you'd do that...
