Title: Cabby dash swap into 78 Rabbit (wiring pin question)
Post by: attackrabbit on May 27, 2008, 08:13:26 AM
Hey all, did the swap yesterday.  Turned out great!  Got most everything working.

The only things that aren't working right now is my water temp and my dash lights.  Any idea what the pin/wire setup is for these?  With enough trial and error I'll figure it out eventually - just looking for help to speed the processes :).

So to be clear, I'm asking which wires are the water temp sending unit and dash lights and which pins they should be assigned to in the wide console connector.

Thanks in advance!

I'll be doing the structural supports Thursday.

When I went through and swapped dashes I ended up using wiring diagrams from 3 different bentley's to get everything figured out.

I didn't use a MM much at all to be honest. Stuff worked though *Shrug*

I got it all pinned out and figured.  I just need to post my results :).  I only fried one wire! :D

Good job!

One of the big reasons I never wanted to update my dash is beacuse the rats nest of wires behind it gave me a chill.

Oh well!

It's true, but much of the rats nest needed to get sorted.  I am happy I rewired as much as I have, I now have windshield wipers, ignition and blower motor - all working.  It's insane!!!

haha, thats the great part about driving a rabbit - you get excited when things that are supposed to work actually work :D

"dude my heater works! FUCK YA!"

Love it :D

the AC in my Z4 quit working the other day because the battery went low (don't know why?) that was rough in the Florida summer heat. gah

It's true, now if I could just make the car run evenly, I'd have something pretty special.

Good god, I'm saprised insurance didn't total it ;)

Actually, it was covered under warranty :D

I guess when the battery goes low, it goes into "drive only mode" and bascially turns off all the other functions. Sometimes, I think my car is too smart for its own good. Or for my good.

...seriously.  If it starts calling you Dave and won't let you do stuff like, open doors.  Just want you to know.  You are dead meat!

I can't let you do that, Dave

So true. I'll keep an eye out for that. The red light in the dash hasn't been TOO intrusive.
