knives?
« on: October 06, 2008, 06:54:34 PM »

I have managed to only buy a couple this year so far, but always seem to have more than I'll ever be able to use.

just a couple of the most recent-

victorinox mauser- I think I've owned 5 of these so far, they keep getting lost in some horrific manner for some reason.

I now have two, one brand new in the box, one roughed up one to carry. Was made by Victorinox for the German military, is larger than most swiss army knives, and has a drop point blade with the mauser logo on it as well as a combo saw/opener/screwdriver blade that they only used on a few knives:

Columbia River Sting- I haven't found a practical use for this little fucker yet, but its made out of a single piece of metal and has some really good balance.. apparently some people throw them since they are so dense:

NRS Pilot- a water knife, you squeeze the outside edges of the sheath to release it, it just pops out in your hand..  I have it clipped to the outside of my life jacket- has a cutout for cutting rope, a blunt nose for prying and a bottle opener in the handle:

CRKT's & the Kershaw Blackout.

Just make sure the Kershaw knife says Made in USA, not just the box.  monk

I miss my kershaw leek, I have no idea where I lost it.

I still say CRKT makes the best "value" knives around.

Is that CRKT sharpened on both edges?  Just by design tho it could cause legal issues in several states.

My absolute favorite knife?  Benchmade Griptilian

I have a combo edge and a Ritter Semi-custom in S30V that I use daily.  Also have another 1 or 2 around in my woods gear.

For a fixed blade, here's my choice.  BM Nimvarus, I prefer the older models with G10 scales.

yessir.

I wouldn't dream of trying to carry that outside of hunting/camping.

I've never owned a benchmade, but I've also never heard a bad word spoken about them.. the ones I've seen looked awesome.

I ganked this one from a cop when it fell out of his flight suit at the last heli trade show I was at.  I usually lose a knife within about 6 months of buying it, but I've managed to hang onto this one for a couple of years.

Still on waiting on the karma from this one...

I have a Gerber 4" folding blade...its one of the questionable legality ones since it has a spring assist, but you have to unlock it with a button and initiate it with your finger. It might have been pulled from the market.

Thing was the bomb in the jungle, though.

I have a Kershaw Whirlwind serrated that I carry everywhere ad it is a damn nice knife. The thing is so comfortable to hold.  Plus the auto open or whatever it is called is a nice feature.  It's like a switchblabe but not!! brain damage!

The tip broke of from a fall off my dresser a while back.  Thankfully Kershaw replaced it no problem.

The whole lifetime warranty from spyderco makes me think I should just get one of them next.  But I have never found one I truly like.

I think my next knife will need to be a more EMS work related.

CKRT has a lifetime warranty too, that includes sending you (at no charge) replacement screws should one come out of the knife at some point, no questions asked.

these are their "rescue/emt" knives, the good news is, they're all cheap and well built:

if you're looking for a fixed blade, the blunt tipped A.B.C. one is awesome- I actually have the two previous knives from the series that one is based on, and love them- the blunt tipped one could literally be dropped on a flotation bag without fear of puncture:
