Tweels. Michelin idea? Can't remember. Almost totally rigid laterally and much lighter than your average tire. Less mass, less weight... both reasons for them to find themselves on the newer segway inventions. On the downside, they're loud as hell and, though durable, aren't well suited for freeway speeds after being a little damaged. Both reasons for them not to find their way onto your favorite sports car.

I believe they're being offered to the military in hummer sizes to help keep the vehicles mobile after striking an IED.
