so, i had a 4spd in my rabbit, now its going to have a 5spd. is it worth my time to use mk3 shifter box and hsit in my rabbit, or can i make my rabbit shift easy peazy with some magicly tasty parts off a donor car? i dont realy have any of my shifter stuff other than the box left over from my stock 4spd parts stash.

Easy shit.  Get the 5 speed driver side mount and it'll drop in.  The existing linkage will work "ok" but 5th is sometimes a bit hard to get into.  Throw in some 5 speed rabbit shifter linkage and you're good to go.  VERY easy.

Agreed, finding the motor mount is the hardest part.  Depending on the wiring from the car to the trans you might have to clip/connect two-four wires to make the reverse lights work.

I usually just put it on my chest, wheel under the car, lift motor in place, slide it onto the motor around the flywheel etc then while I'm under there (I have a jack under the oil pan) I lift the jack up a bit till the motor mount is in place, toss the bolt through, get out, put the primary bolts in, tighten them to spec, put the motor mount bolt through, connect the linkage, connect the speedo, connect the axles, then drive to get beer.

I may have some 5-speed parts in a couple weeks.  Depending what Mr. Bunny has on him.

I have the long rod that goes underneath the car from the shifter box through the firewall bushing somewhere, and a bunch of plastic linkage rods and bushings.

I dont know if thats what you need, no idea what parts are actually different.

Also, when converting to a 5speed, you'll need a lower shift box, the box under the shift ball/lever

that box is not too expensive, and is a wear part- might as well buy that new- I put a new one in my scirocco, made a world of difference.
