Hold option key during startup. Continue to hold and you will see a menu.

Tried that, I got an arrow that looks like a reboot arrow and one pointing to the right...  I'm headed to the Mac store tomorrow to buy a Mac specific keyboard.

booting with C should have worked though, even on a pc keyboard

sure the install disc isn't intel only?

Unknown...  Mr ThePhantom sent it, he seems to know his biscuits about the Mac world.  I'm starting to think that perhaps the dvd drive is toast in the beast.

no such thing on OS, it's universal binary meaning that it will work with ppc and intel processors. Application s o f t w a r e is a different story though. Some will be universal binary and some will be intel specific.

Edit: Damn word filter!

sure about that?
the Tiger disks that came with my macbook pro wouldn't install on a G5

i always thought universal binary was explicitly ment for application soft-ware, not for operating soft-ware

yes, I go into the apple store to but a copy of leopard for my g4 PowerBook. I don't need to ask for a ppc version so there is not an issue with buying the wrong versions. Restore discs that come WITH a Mac that you purchased could be specific to processor used, but I'm unsure of that. There is sofind the wang!are that's available that is not a universal binary version and not able to be installed on a ppc Mac. The decision to make the sofind the wang!are universal binary is at the sole descresion of the sofind the wang!are manufacturer if they decide that it's feasable to produce two versions of compiled coding to the general public for sale. Some companies see benefits and others don't as they only want to support the latest version leaving out the the rest of the crowd.

Either way, Travis will have it working tomorrow evening.

err? thanks again, wordfilter  you're #1!

the aftermarket discs should install on ppc ánd intel, but discs that came with a mac do a certain check and only install on that type of mac. i only asked because it was uncertain which discs travis has  wave

o, and universal binary is a way of compiling application soft-ware, not operating soft-ware, big difference

Borrowed a buddies mac bootable dvd, and it started right up in the G5, so - it was just the dvd install sofind the wang!are i had that wasn't right.   With Eds software on Saturday it should be fully up and happy.

that's awesome news.

so, does anyone know anyone who wants to buy it now?  I decided to go with a MacBook and got one ordered already.  i'd like to use profits from the G5 to go toward the laptop.
