Although reports are intermittent, and written in the prose of a poorly educated 6th grader, it seems that the Southeast is still Shambles Central.

Which oil breaking in my 16v?
« on: April 11, 2008, 02:18:50 PM »

It has some conv oil in it now but after tuning I want to put new oil in and get some highway miles in. New bearings, seals, rings, rebuilt head...  No oil cooler yet. Big ass passat oil filter.

This is one of those topics where every asshole has an opinion.

I've always used conventional dino oil 10w40 for the first 1k (changed at 500 mile intervals) and then immediately switched to full synthetic; usually Mobil 1.

Never had any issues.

Every motor I've run in used the absolute cheapest 20w-50 changed at 300, then every 600 miles.  After 3k I went to synthetic.

I've never had a drop of oil in the catch can, and you know how I drive.
