Horrible wiring mess and picture of the douchebaggery with the coolant hose, which is why the coolant fan and battery were both toasted.

Three counts of douchebagcraft: 1. Look at the tensioner for the alternator belt. Yes, the one held on with TAPE. 2. What's that in front of the coolant reservoir? Is that a speedometer cable? Yes it is. 3. See the air filter? That hose clamp holds it onto a rubber ring which is, in turn, pressed onto the little flange on the supercharger. The problem? It doesn't fit and the soft rubber has been leaving rubber dust in the intake horn there as it abrades. Not something I like to see on a "Please only assemble and disassemble me in a surgically clean room" G-lader.

This part was at least sort of interesting. I was having trouble installing the replacement signals, and after closer examination, discovered that there was a drywall screw going through the hole for the light assembly's spring clip. Took the drywall screw out and found that it was the only thing holding the front up against the headlight assemblies/upper fender. Closer inspection, and a tug on the bumper, revealed that it's the only thing that was holding it to the right side of the car at all.

This one is some tertiary douchebagness. Fair enough to the PO, yeah, thieves did rip off his stereo and break up the dashboard beyond repair. What I don't understand is why he had such an extensive alarm system installed so poorly. I found that thing spliced into nearly every circuit in the car and, once I removed it, the car ran about a hundred times better. Still dealing with the fallout because, even though I have a pile of wires hanging by the driver's left foot (not in frame), everything seems to work correctly. I don't expect to have that hammered out without spending two days with the chilton's, haynes and bentley. (I love this camera. If you look closely you can read my dog tags.)

On the positive side, the body is pretty straight, it has a ton of go-fast parts in it, it's paid for and, most importantly, it's with a family that will love it and keep it safe from abuse. and it sounds like god. really. cause of the cam and these:

You can't see it, but I'm doing a little dance right now.

Fucking ghetto

Yes. It was stolen from the guy about six times. He finally got tired of half-assing it back together each time and sold it to me for 1200. Mechanically, the vehicle is very sound, with perhaps too many miles on the supercharger. Electrically and cosmetically, though...
It's a work in progress, and it's got a pile of CARB legal mods in it. More money in upgrades, in fact, than I paid for the car, so I'm happy. It'll be a bit better once I source a replacement dash and clean up the wiring, but I'm not leaving it in that color.
The wing works, the AC works, the motor runs, all the signals are there and, while it's probably due for a rebuild, the charger doesn't get hot or make any weird noises. So, yeah, fucking ghetto. It's a fairly built car for what I paid, though and it won't remain ghetto (or red) for long.

And TT, the G-Lader's are dead simple, just not reliable after 100k+ miles. They got driven hard a lot, and their owners didn't seem to understand just how necessary preventative maintenance could be. This guy... he knew how important maintenance was but every time it got stolen, he had to make another quick fix because of stolen parts. The oil's been changed it's whole life and it's got good compression. I plan on driving that G-charger over the edge and replacing it with a twin-screw. Then I'll pretend it's a fire truck everywhere I go.

stolen 6 times?  geez.

i'd love to know where i can get CARB legal mods...  moving to CA from out of state with a bunch of mods done previously has forced me to keep it registered in PA for now, but I don't know how long i can get away with it.

If I ever get around to removing my dash, you can have 1st dibs on it.

the fire truck thing gets old pretty fast... the sound you get used to, but the people staring and telling you what's wrong with your car gets really annoying.

i also have a bunch of spare body panels back in PA, should you need anything.

Most of the CARB stuff is from Neuspeed. I'm glad it was already on there, as I can't make myself buy Neuspeed parts. Too expensive.

Took it out of the driveway for the first time yesterday after spending months finding a replacement steering rack, dash, wheels and motor mount. Now I have to buy two new tires for the front because what I had thought was a blown clutch was actually ridiculous amounts of wheelspin. From my driveway to the local 7-11 is a black streak with interruptions in it only where I shifted. Now I have only to renew my registration and bring up the insurance and I will be doing my best to bring my ghetto project to the next nearest GTG.

Wheeeeeeeeeeee!
