Title: stuck in Colorado, need welding equipment ASAP
Post by: bloo on June 25, 2008, 05:57:01 PM
So we're stuck in Idaho Springs, Colorado about 30 miles outside of Denver. We're towing a Bronco by dolly, and the rear end ate itself.  We picked up another one at a yard in Denver, but we need to cut the brackets off the original and weld them onto the new one.  We have a welder in the group, but no equipment.  I'm goin to hit the local bars and start talkin to hillbillies.

Jess, I called you.. come by and we'll feed you food and beer (and cash)

edit: can't be online forever, my #'s on the master list

We got a junkyard hookup in Denver through a friend of a friend, and another foaf drove out to us with a gas powered welder in tow to put everything together.  We had to grind the brackets off of the junkyard piece to match up to the Bronco's tubing.  Pics to come, it all worked out.

what was this tirp for?

The kid who owns the RV and Bronco moved from Philly to Lake Tahoe, and was taking his stuff out there.  There were 8 of us total, all with different reasons to go.  I lost my job, so I went with.  We did a bunch of hiking and drinking on our way.  He wanted to run his Bronco while we were in Moab, but stuff happened so we just bee lined out of there

That was the original plan, but being that we had another 1500 miles to go, and 8 people in the RV, I didn't want to risk it.  The swap was doable, so we did it.  And we didn't pay for the camp ground!  Suckers.  (if you want that black housing, I'll tell you where we dumped it in Idaho Springs (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=109182774661097244341.0004518abfef57a6a4931&ll=39.741046,-105.51173&spn=0.003337,0.004533&t=h&z=18) under a bunch of rocks)

Moab's a pretty interesting place.  Lots of outdoor activity, but the town is a smalltown kind of thing.  But its kind of fun at the main strip souvenier shops. You drove right past where I used to live. Lived 4 miles from the boarder of Arizona/Nevada, in St. George.

I hear you have more of a story to tell.

We drove through Zions, too.  Totally fuckin' rad, just wish I was on a bike for it instead of an RV.
